When you are choosing a driving instructor what should you consider?
At Smarttouch we check the credentials of all instructors on our website so you don't have to worry. We only register fully Approved Driving Instructors. Just make sure that they have a Green Badge with their photo displayed in their front windscreen. If the driving instructor does not have one you should not get in the vehicle and report the driver to the police.
Our most recommended instructors appear at the top of your search results. So we can save you hours of effort in finding the right Driving Instructor for you. All the feedback given is from local people who have completed a course of lessons or passed their driving test.
An experienced instructor will have a greater knowledge of the local area and will also use a range of teaching techniques to ensure that you learn quickly and have the best chance of passing your driving test.
We don't recommend Driving Schools. You will only find testimonials about the individual Driving Instructor, some of whom will work for a Driving School.
Just ask for a quote from any of our Instructors and they will contact you within minutes either by phone or email to book your 1st driving lesson. Some instructors may use a booking agent to book you in to the instructor's diary. You will normally be offered either a 1, 1 ½ or 2 hour driving lesson.
Prices will range slightly between instructors and will depend upon your area, the kind of car offered and also the quality of the instructor. So be careful if your instructor sounds too cheap, you might end up having to pay twice.
When you register for a quote from any of our instructors, they will know that you have been referred by us. You only need to provide us with a few details and our instructors can then make some fantastic offers to you through our website.
You will even be able to print off a voucher and present it to your instructor when you go for your lesson.
Everybody is different, however your instructor will normally be able to give you a good idea after your 1st lesson.
The average (according to the DSA) is around 45 hours of tuition with an instructor while practising for at least 20 hours privately. On average most candidates for a driving test pass on their 2nd or 3rd attempt. This is mainly because pupils often present for their 1st test too early. Nerves may also play a part, however there is no substitute for experience.
If you think you are ready though, just ask your instructor to arrange a mock test for you, with a different instructor. If you pass the mock test, then put in for your practical test, but if you haven't passed keep practising. You will also have saved yourself the fee for the driving test and don't forget the car hire on your test day, that's more than £100!
